About Debbie – Professional Master Cat Groomer

Cats have always been a huge part of my life. My love affair with cats started as a young girl when my parents handed me a tiny tabby boy kitten we named Timmy. Timmy was a huge part of my life growing up, he was loving, fearless and very smart. He would walk with me to the bus stop on the way to school each morning and would return to the bus stop later in the day waiting for the bus to bring me home. Timmy was a huge part of our family and we were devastated by his passing some 18 years later.

There have been many cats in my life since Timmy passed, rescued strays to the stunning Bengals & Maine Coons who share our family home today. A house is not a home without a cat.

Another passion throughout my life had been horses and competing in many disciplines from showjumping to dressage. I hung up my riding boots in 2012 after the sudden loss of my beautiful horse Rocky. Although I was no longer riding and competing I still had that strong competitive urge and this is when I discovered there was such a thing as cat showing. From my very first cat show I was hooked but it wasn’t until we got our first Maine Coon Rocco that I discovered the difficulties in grooming a cat to a high standard but with the help and advice from friends within the cat fancy grooming became a second nature.

Fast forward to 2019, my life long ambition had been to work with animals and after 25 years doing accounts working in an office environment I was looking for a career change. My son had left education and working full time, I felt it was time for me, time to do something I was passionate about opposed to doing something to pay the bills. It was whilst visiting a friend who was convalescing after having surgery that she happened to mention that due to the surgery she had not been able to groom her cats and that the cat groomer had visited the day before. Right there in that moment I knew I was going to become a cat groomer.

Through doing hours of research it became apparent that there were a very small number of cat only groomers across the whole of the UK, furthermore, of those that I did find only a few had had any formal training or qualifications and those that were qualified were not in the Manchester area.

Being the type of person who aims to be the best I can I knew I wanted to achieve the highest standard of qualification possible. With this in mind I booked my training and one to one tuition with Svetlana Broussova, a Russian veterinary surgeon, Master Cat Groomer and Director of the highly regarded Cat Grooming School in London. After months of intense training I was delighted to achieve Master Cat Groomer status.
